CCSE’s recent work on festivals, events and accessibility has been supported by Spirit of 2012 as part of their Moments to Connect portfolio of projects.
Questions of how to ensure sustainable conditions for achieving EDI aims has been a central consideration for the suite of work that colleagues at CCSE have undertaken as part of the FestivalsConnect project.
Over the course of the past year or so, CCSE colleagues have had the opportunity to explore and discuss the role(s) that festivals and events can play with regard to the achievement of equality, diversity and inclusion outcomes with stakeholders who are active across the gamut of events and festivals of local, national and international significance. Narrative from these dialogues will comprise a vital part of the outputs still to be finalised as part of this study.
While elements of FestivalsConnect are still ongoing, we are delighted to be able to share the evidence review published as part of this research. Festivals, events and equality, diversity & inclusion outcomes: an evidence review explores EDI through a multi-faceted interpretation of accessibility, discussing the ways in which access to spaces and places can be precluded or enabled. Ultimately, the review aims to bring into focus ways in which festival and event organisers might seek to ensure that EDI objectives are embedded in the process of bringing an event to fruition and are, in turn, realised during the event delivery as fully and effectively as possible.
